Good portrayal of two main characters
Throughout the series the developing relation between Robin and CB is made engaging. As often is the case with mysteries, solving the crime is less important than the setting and interpersonal interactions. That is true here, and the very low simmer between Robin and Strike is what keeps it all going. That is particularly true with the last series, The Ink Black Heart. This last series might scupper attempts to continue with more of them. It is very too much complicated, drags the whole thing through a tedious keyhole of a video game, which to me added nothing but confusion. And a number of characters and their avatars that became too bewildering and eventually exhausted my patience. If there is an effort to stream the latest book in this series, I devoutly hope that effort is made to slim things down and to avoid making it an exercise in "um, who is that again?".
