The need to keep the Caliphate in the hands of the Quraish causes Caliph Haroun to put his son Al-Amin, a son on the Quraish from both sides of his family, in line for succession despite the intelligence, astuteness and wisdom of his eldest son Al-Ma'moun, son of his Persian concubine.

Haroun Al-Rashid confirms the succession by hanging it on the Kaaba fearing for Al-Ma'moun from the brutality of his brother Al-Amin. This causes Al-Amin to incite the caliphate against Al-Ma'moun, tarnishing his image with his ongoing meetings with Ja'afar Al-Barmaki.

Yahya Al-Barmaki's ambitions for his sons in Khorasan cause him to expand his property in the city and appoint guards to protect it. Haroun Al-Rashid married his sister Al-Abbasa to Ja'afar Al-Barmaki in name only, preventing him from coming into contact with her.

Ibn Rabia' fears Ja'afar Al-Barmaki's rise in power with the Abbasid Caliph after his marriage to Al-Abbasa, causing him to incite Al-Amin against him after discovering his plans to expand his property and his appointment of a small army to protect it.

Caliph Haroun is angry with Yahya Al-Barmaki and his son Ja'afar after Ibn Al-Rabia's success in overthrowing them, enabling him to steal a book that Yahya sent to Ibn Al-Sahl Al-Wali that was lost in Khorasan.

Caliph Haroun confiscates Yahya's property in Khorasan and gives it to his son Al-Ma'moun. Al-Abbasa and Ja'afar violate Haround Al-Rasheed's order after she secretly meets him in his house. The Caliph declares war on the Romans.

Muhammad Al-Amin becomes angry upon Caliph Haroun's departure to war without putting him in charge of the country after him. Roman King Nikephoros is defeated and complies with the demands of the new Caliph after the conquering of Hercule.

Caliph Haroun discovers that his sister Al-Abbasa is pregnant from Ja'afar upon his return from war. He orders Ja'afar's execution and confiscates all Barmakid property in the Abbasid Empire to the surprise and sadness of Abdullah Al-Ma'moun.

Caliph Haroun pardons his sister Al-Abbasa and expels her from the palace after the execution of Ja'afar Al-Barmaki. Haroun betrays Yahya's wife after her attempts to secure a pardon for Yahya following his and his children's arrest and the confiscation of their property.

Caliph Haroun worries for his son Abdullah Al-Ma'moun after his execution of Ja'afar and the removal of the Baramkids from governance. Zubeida signals to the Caliph to marry off her son Muhammad Al-Amin, to which the Caliph agrees.

Rafie' bin Al-Laith's greed in Khorasan causes him to incite Caliph Haroun against Ibn Mahan, Governor of Samarkand. Ibn Mahan discovers this and employs Al-Fadl bin Al-Sahl to overthrow Rafie' with the Caliph.

Caliph Haroun fears for his country after giving succession to his son Al-Amin after him. The marriage between Muhammad Al-Amin and his cousin is completed, causing Zaubeida to begin planning how to remove Abdullah Al-Ma'moun from his confirmed position.

Vizier Yahya dies in prison to the grief of Caliph Haroun and his son Abdullah Al-Ma'moun. Ali bin Mahan succeeds in overthrowing Rafie' bin Al-Laith after inciting Caliph Haroun against him with the help of Al-Fadl bin Al-Sahl.

Ali bin Mahan and Rafie' bin Al-Laith fight when the latter refuses to comply with Ali bin Mahan, angering the Caliph and causing him to exile Ibn Mahan from the State of Khorasan as well as declaring war on Rafie' bin Al-Laith in Samarkand.

Caliph Haroun leaves for war against Rafie' bin Al-Laith accompanied by his son Abdullah Al-Ma'moun after passing State affairs to his son Muhammad Al-Amin despite his fears for the country at his rule.

Caliph Haroun is honest with his son Abdullah Al-Ma'moun about his fears for the country at the hands of Al-Amin as he does not trust him. Illness causes the Caliph to pass control to his son Al-Ma'moun, handing over command of the war against Rafie'.

Caliph Haroun Al-Rasheed dies after his illness gets worse, giving succession to his son Al-Amin after him. Zubeida suggests to her son Al-Amin to remove his brother Abdullah Al-Ma'moun and appoint his son Musa in his place, despite the former Caliph's succession pledge.

There is conflict between Al-Amin and his brother Al-Ma'moun after Amin's reversal of the Caliph's pledge. Al-Ma'moun settles in Khorasan at the request of Caliph Haroun. Al-Amin attempts to find an excuse to remove his brother Al-Ma'moun from the State.

Al-Ma'moun refuses to comply with his brother Al-Amin's excuse causing Al-Amin to unrightfully remove him from the throne, ordering the army to fight him. Al-Ma'moun angers at his brother's removal of him, attempting to prevent sedition through reconciliation.

Al-Ma'moun's attempts to achieve peace and stop bloodshed fail after Al-Amin begins his sedition whilst Ali bin Mahan shows his arrogance, refusing the conciliation. Al-Ma'moun's army triumph over Al-Amin after killing Ibn Mahan and his soldiers.

Al-Ma'moun is victorious once again after the defeat of his brother, Al-Amin's army, with Hamadan coming under his area of control. Al-Amin relies on his porter Ibn Al-Rabia' to control State affairs, engaging him in evening entertainment.

The people of Merv and Khorasan pledge allegiance to Al-Ma'moun, making him Caliph over them after announcing his confirmed claim from Al-Rashid. Al-Ma'moun lays siege on the city of Baghdad, cracking down on Muhammad Al-Amin and ordering him to step down from the State.

Taher bin Al-Hussein overturns the security charter that Harthama gave to Al-Amin, killing him immediately upon handing himself over to the army. The siege of Baghdad is broken and its people granted safety after Al-Ma'moun puts Al-Hasan bin Al-Sahl in charge of it affairs.

Al-Ma'moun puts Ali bin Musa a descendent of the family of the Prophet Muhammad in succession after him to preempt rebellion ignited by the Alawites, angering his uncle Ibrahim, which causes him to leave Baghdad and incite the public against him.

Disorder befalls the Abbasid State with haters igniting sedition after the installation of Caliph Al-Ma'moun and Ali bin Musa as his successor. His uncle Ibrahim continues his attempts to undermine the foundations of his reign in Baghdad.

Al-Ma'moun's governor in Baghdad Al-Hasan bin Al-Sahl flees after the public comes out against him. Ibrahim appoints himself the Caliph over them and employs mercenaries. Al-Ma'moun wishes to return to Baghdad after conditions worsen.

Al-Fadl bin Al-Sahl succeeds in overthrowing Harthama and Al-Ma'moun is unaware of his brother Al-Hassan bin Al-Sahl after his escape to Merv. The mercenaries appointed by Ibrahim cause ruin in Baghdad, cracking down on its people.

Al-Fadl bin Al-Sahl kills Harthama with poison, angering Al-Ma'moun and causing him to remove Al-Fadl from his position. Al-Fadl takes revenge on the Caliph by killing Ali bin Musa and blaming it on Al-Ma'moun. In turn Al-Ma'moun kills Al-Fadl.

Al-Ma'moun arrives in Baghdad, returning to the capital of the Abbasid State after the removal of Ibrahim from power. The public comes out to Al-Ma'moun after being forced to say that the Qur'an was created.

Al-Ma'moun dies after his illness gets worse as a result of his departure to face the Romans. The Caliphate is passed to his brother Al-Motasem Billah after him. The public come out against what Ma'moun compelled them to, returning to the belief that the Qur'an was not created.
