Failed pretentious experiment with nice cinematography

The quite interesting first camera movements gave the impression that this experimental movie would be very special. Unfortunately, it is not the case. The film is an an allegory of journey of life that, by a mix of plastic beauty and purposefully absurd dialogs and situations, guide the spectator through Trinh T. Minh-ha and Jean- Paul Bourdier's proposal. Though, that proposal is not attractive, as the movie is neither sweeping, nor funny, nor coherent. Images as interesting as the ones shown in the very beginning appear in many other moments afterwards; Kathleen Beeler's cinematography is certainly the singe really nice element in this film. However, the story - or the lack of a story - is simply boring. Some scenes are particularly irritating, such as: the one in which the three travelers jump on the colorful pictures on the floor, or the one that shows a dinner in which people talk having weird objects attached to their faces, or some of the participations of the two men in the train. The last, but not least: come on, why to label this film as sci-fi if it is obviously not?! The "other dimension" is accessed only by imagination, not by any technological device. It could be classified as sci-fi only if you considered character Borges's cubes and robots, what is ridiculous.
