The film was announced by Lions Gate Entertainment CEO Jon Feltheimer in May 2015, more than a year before Now You See Me 2 (2016) was released in June 2016.
First film in the series without Sir Michael Caine as Arthur Tressler, due to his retirement in 2023.
In the trailer, J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) quips at Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike) that "diamonds are forever". This of course is also the title of Sean Connery's final official outing as James Bond, whereas Rosamund Pike's first feature film role was in Pierce Brosnan's final outing as James Bond, Die Another Day (2002).
