Agathe was the eldest daughter of Georg Von Trapp and his first wife, Agathe Whitehead-Von Trapp. They had seven children. When Georg married Maria, three more children were born.

After emigrating to the United States in the 1940's, the von Trapps established their home in Stowe Vermont, setting up a music camp and then a ski lodge. Georg, the patriarch died in 1947 and Maria, his second wife, in 1987. The lodge is managed by Sam von Trapp, son of Johannes von Trapp, the 10th and youngest child, born of Georg and Maria. As of September 2023, Johannes is the last surviving sibling of the von Trapp family.
