Sesh Anka is to the point, urban, slick & very crispy in flavour!

Sesh Anka is urban, to the point, superbly slick and very crispy in nature. Kudos to débutante director Tathagata Banerjee for crafting such an audio-visual masterpiece for the Bengali urban audience. Most of the frames were shot in hand held camera by Cinematographer Supriyo Dutta as the Director wanted to give the film a 'THIRD EYE' effect. An eye which doesn't belong to the audiences or the director or any of the on-screen characters, it's a mysterious third eye. A lot of media critics did not understand this theory as they aren't exposed to the broader horizon of world cinema. Another crucial feature of Sesh Anka is it's super slick editing by eminent Editor Sujay Datta Ray. It's a complete visual treat for 2 hours & 3 minutes. All the actors have enacted their respective roles perfectly, especially the veteran Deepankar De, who played the character of the protagonist Pronoy Dasgupta and Parno Mittra, who is Raina Roychowdhury in the film. The background music by Savvy is OK but the song sang by the living legend Usha Uthup is really a piece of delicacy as it catered to the genre of jazz blues. The art direction by Ananda Adhya is believable & convincing enough. Make up work executed by Ram Rajak is to be praised because of the work he has done on Mir Afsar Ali. I won't be elaborating on this matter as this have to be experienced inside the darkness of the cinema theaters only. The court scenes are pictured realistically and most importantly aesthetically. Congratulations to Tathagata Banerjee for not making those 100% authentic and concentrating on the aesthetic aspects only. One must understand that this is CINEMA and cinema's are works of imaginative and innovative fictions. The story and screenplay is magnetic and Creative Director Sanjib Baneji has made a commendable debut alongside the Director himself. Thanks to Macneill Media and Mr. Pradip Churiwal & Saikat Mitra for providing this creative duo a creative platform to showcase their talents.

Why should society adhere to basic rules and norms!

It is a murder mystery. I will not reveal the end…I am not so mean OK! So there are many things to learn from this film!

Firstly, it is for those people who think that 'they can do anything they like and no one has the right to interfere'! Or for those people who think that social rules and norms should not exist and everyone should be free to enjoy life in whatever way they like! Well, one such character is there – the central figure – a Bizman. Let's call him the Bizman.

So this man had a wife and a daughter. This man had forced his wife to transfer all her belongings – assets and property that her father gave her – to his name…and like a dumb, subservient woman, she did so as well – just to win his love!! Also because they already had a child – so in order for her daughter to have the protective cover of her father, she was agreeing to all his atrocities. As if this was not enough – her husband, the Bizman started having a 'live-in' relationship with a whorish-woman who happened to be his subordinate at office.

HE started bringing her home – right in presence of his wife and daughter and happily trotted towards the bedroom! Unable to tolerate such shamelessness, the wife of the Bizman commits suicide – leaving her daughter all alone…to fend for herself – she became a frustrated, suicidal, depressed drug addict! To add to her miseries, the whore woman – who was her father's mistress, hired a pauper – who happened to be the daughter's friend – to supply her with drugs! Let's analyse the story line till now:: The Bizman is an alcoholic, womaniser – his choice – no one to interfere – his wife died..what about it? The Bizman's daughter – neglected, sad, depressed, suicidal, joins 'escort service' for money! – her choice…..or is she forced into all this because of her Beep father?? The mistress woman – she was sleeping around with the Bizman as well as his rival – so that she could be richer!- Her choice? To befool mediocre sex-starved males? Break families? Cause death of a wife? Make a young educated girl become a drug addict and a prostitute? Please re-read what I wrote above and think about the consequences of 'not maintaining the most ancient knowledge given to civilization – 'Thou Shall not have adulterous eyes'! Story proceeds:: This drug addict daughter of the Bizman has a special friend who is very close to her. Due to some reason, she takes the drugs – lying amply with her friend…but because she was not used to taking drugs, her vision becomes blurred and she meets with an accident – dies on spot! – A man is known by the company he keeps? – One should be prudent about choosing friends……a drug addict friend…..eventually caused the untimely death of a normal, brainy girl friend! Is that why parents scream and shout at their children when they come to know that they are mixing up with anti-socials….yea – drug addicts are considered as anti-socials…..they are after all encouraging the drug pedlars to flourish – so indirectly they too become anti-socials! In comes a pauper friend – who is hired by the whorish mistress to continue supplying her (the daughter of Bizman) drugs…plus he introduces her to a criminal who turns young girls into 'prostitutes'….given them a sophisticated name of course – called 'escort service' – but the work profile is the same – to have sex with the customer – of any cast, creed, age, breed! Eradicate poverty? Poverty anywhere is a threat to prosperity everywhere? Any (most) poverty stricken person, born and brought up in slums will readily agree to do just anything for money – even murder! He was just destroying an already 'destroyed and broken' rich girl! The mistress had another lover by the way! He was younger and more hot-blooded than the old haggard Bizman! Hell only knows when such sleazy aged pigs understand that a young woman will obviously like to have sex with a younger, more virile male! Such brainless as**oles they are! Anyways, watch the film – the criminal gets murdered in this film….and people are made to wonder who that would exactly be!

Sesh Anka is an absolute 10 on 10 in every aspects of urban filmmaking

Sesh Anka is a thriller, which would captivate your senses and is bound to keep you tied to your movie seat till you experience the climax of the very well woven mystery. Almost all the actors has acted brilliantly in this debut directorial venture of Tathagata Banerjee. The concept, story, screenplay and dialogues seemed very original and writer & creative Director Sanjib Banerji must be congratulated for that. The background music is very captivating. Full marks to Savvy for scoring such a vibrant background music. Deepankar De fitted his character of Pronoy Dasgupta to the core and so did Parno Mittra in her character of Raina Roychowdhury. Apart from these two, another man has to be mentioned specially, he is Mir Afsar Ali as the mysterious sleuth John Braganza (the man who doesn't have a face but certainly has an identity). The editing by Sujay Datta Ray is cut 2 cut and Supriya Dutta's cinematography steals the breath of the audiences. Debolina Dutta as the mischievous corporate fixer Minakshi Bhattacharya executed her role upto its hilt and Shataf Figar as the dashing business tycoon Rajeev Mitro looked damn sexy in his introductory scene. In short Sesh Anka is 10/10 for me. Its a must watch ... not to be missed.

    A must watch Bengali thriller

to begin with, the very commendable fact about this movie is that it is an original concept and the writer (Sanjib Banerjee) had the guts to pull away from adaptations and introduce a new character Pranoy Dasgupta, retired advocate. Pranoy is an original creation and the writer delivers in spades in creating a new possible franchise character that can stand shoulder to shoulder with Feluda, Byomkesh and Shobor. Unlike the others, Pronoy is an elderly gentleman at the autumn of his life, trying to find bliss in extracurricular activities that take up his time. Pronoy is dragged into a case by his former colleague and pupil Amrita Banerjee (June Maliah) where her god-daughter Raina Roychowdhury (Parno Mittra) has been prosecuted for manslaughter. Raina is the daughter of famous business tycoon Ritabrata Roychowdhury (Shankar Chakraborty) a deplorable character who is ready to abandon his daughter for the sake of his reputation and status. But how Raina became involved in this dubious world of escort service, drug abuse and even international mafia? When Pranoy bites into this dark layer cake, like a true epicurean he is hell bent on finding the hidden ingredients. Pranoy is joined by headstrong, easy to anger but equally sharp young cop Prithwiraj (Samadarshi Dutta) and the enigmatic man of many faces, investigator and police informer John Braganza (Mir Afsar Ali). What follows is a tour-de-force through the murky depths of corporate espionage, flesh trade, narcotics and even international crime. Is Raina truly innocent? If so why was she framed and who is behind the black curtains pulling the strings of the myriad shifty characters skittering throughout the story? To know the answers Shesh Anko is a must watch.
