Episode titles follow the form usually used for the titles of academic journal articles.
Folk songwriter Jonathan Coulton creates the song "Previously on..." at the beginning of each episode. Braindead creators Robert King and Michelle King had previously worked with Coulton in The Good Wife (2009).
The show had a planned four-season arc, which would have seen the bugs then invade Wall Street, Silicon Valley and Hollywood, but on October 17, 2016, CBS cancelled the series after one season.
On its cancellation, Robert King, the show's creator said, "It was a show that was trying to be as weird and anti-network as could be, and it was probably a mistake to do that on a network. But I loved that show."
The kitchen scene in The Insanity Principle: How Extremism in Politics Is Threatening Democracy in the 21st Century (2016) was filmed in the kitchen from Madam Secretary (2014).
