Both original voices of main characters, Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) and Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi) have returned to work on this project.
A rarity with series based on Disney animated films, all of the major voice actors from the movie return for this series. Mandy Moore (Rapunzel), Zachary Levi (Eugene/Flynn Rider), Jeffrey Tambor (Big Nose), Paul F Tompkins (Shorty), Ron Perlman (the Stabbington Brothers), Donna Murphy (Mother Gothel) and Brad Garrett (Hook Hand). Garrett also voiced an unnamed fishmonger in one episode.
First Disney Channel Animated Series based on a film since The Emperor's New School (2006). Other Disney shows like that from the past decade had been either Disney Junior or Disney XD Shows.
When Eden Espinosa (Cassandra) was invited to audition for the series, all she knew about "Project T" was that her character was about 19 and the show would air on Disney Channel. Wanting her performance to suit a younger audience, she deliberately pitched up her voice to make it sound more youthful. When she was invited for a callback, the main note producers had for her was to not be afraid to sound more mature so she didn't so closely resemble the voice of the show's lead actress. To give her a sense of what to stay clear of, the producers sent her a recording of the lead voice actress, who Espinosa immediately recognized as Mandy Moore. "I just thought 'Maybe they're doing something new and Mandy's doing voice work for that too,'" Espinosa said. When she landed the role and learned the nature of the project, she said ". . . to be asked to originate a voice for a new character on a Disney cartoon ... Well, that's really another dream come true for me."
