Joe Gage is an all-time great in the genre of Gay Porn - I knew him in NYC as Tim Kincaid when he was cranking out cheap but mainstream action movies in the '80s. Here he's back at his old tricks, but apparently has lost any interest in acting or characterization.
The handsome all-male cast recite their lines by rote, nearly as amateurishly and stiffly as foreign actors attempting the great unknown English language in an international production. I found this off-putting, but presumably the target Gay audience won't care one whit.
The nominal story is a group of thieves who have taken the head of the household (Tyler Saint) hostage and trussed him up for bondage content. Like Fred MacMurray, he has three sons, whose appearance in this stagy production cues sex. One son is popular and his pals stop over to see him, cuing more sex groupings. All the sex is extremely mechanical, with so much jerking off that this feature more closely resembles one of those "Stroker" movies (and I don't mean Hal Needham's classically bad racing picture "Stroker Ace") than the real films which made Gage famous in the '70s.
Perhaps the most significant failing of "Home Invasion" is a timidity common to many current pornographers, even old hands like Kincaid/Gage. Back in the day, Tom DeSimone's "Assault" had a certain amount of roughness the fans enjoy in this genre, and the all-time classic (boy/girl division) Zebedy Colt's "The Intruder" starring Kim Pope was grim and disturbing. But here we have obvious excuses for the cast to have sex in pairs or groups without emotion or any sense of involvement. No danger whatsoever, and a ridiculous finish to the story as the thieves, aiming to steal a big payroll boodle out of the safe, are happy to come away with some minor electronic equipment as their payoff.
