The film was originally called "The Dark Side of ham radio." Since ham radio (as a hobby) doesn't have a dark side, and this title caused a big commotion with ham radio operators), Dutch Marich was contacted by Peter Pan to clear up what the title meant. Dutch Marich replied that it was a working title.
Max, the main character, was originally cast by another actor whose working visa however had run out causing Dutch Marich to hire Jed. Jed ended up being a good choice for the role.
