Grant Masters in Await Further Instructions (2018)

FAQ

Await Further Instructions

FAQ

It seems like such of a waste of a scene to just write it off as a dream sequence, right? I, literally, finished watching this film about a minute ago. I think the entire film is commentary on how television (and to some extent this applies to social media), is negatively poisoning those of us who view too much of it without any careful reflection on the input we get from it. If you think about it, today's screens tell us how to live to some extent. Whether it's checking to see how the weather is going to be and selecting appropriate clothing, seeing a new story about the latest mass shooting in America and taking a position on the for/against arguments for gun control, or seeing the latest information about how immigrants are changing the tone of a nation and forming a view on whether diversity is bad or not.

Getting back to the scene in question, perhaps it symbolizes how much better life might be free of television. Alternatively, given that the entity behind all this was demanding worship, it could also be that Annji was being fed stimuli to show her what a worshipful existence could be like: beautiful and peaceful but completely artificial and therefore empty. Following my assumption that the entity is television itself (why else is everything made of cables?) Either of these views fit. On the other hand, it could just be poor film making.

ALT TAKE: Of course, the whole point of all art is that you are supposed to interpret it through the prism of your own world-view, beliefs and experiences. So really, you should figure out what that scene means to you in the context that it happens in. That's the point of art, that it means different things to different people. And through your interpretation you may learn things about yourself - your interpretation of art says everything about you (and nothing about the artists).

Alternatley, they just wanted to tell their cool story and it doesn't mean anything.
