Pam Grier, Diane Keaton, Rhea Perlman, Jacki Weaver, and Celia Weston in Poms (2019)

Trivia

Poms

Edit
Inspired by the true story of the Sun City Poms, a cheer squad with members ranging in age from 55 to 88. The Poms were first formed back in the '70s, initially as part of the Sun City Saints women's softball team, per their website. Eventually, they became Arizona legends, performing at parades, conventions, sporting events, community meetings, fundraisers, and retirement living centers and care facilities.
Both Phyllis Somerville (Helen) and Carol Sutton (Ruby) passed away in 2020, just one year after the movie's release.
The cast went through a 10-day cheerleading boot camp to help the women bond and learn the cheer choreography.
Was greenlit in part due to the success of Book Club (2018), a rom-com that earned $68 million at the box office the previous year and also starred Diane Keaton, who was 73 at the time of release.
