Jenna Coleman was allowed to read Queen Victoria's diaries as research. Parts of the diaries were removed upon the Queen's instruction shortly after her death.
Originally made as a mini-series, but after getting so many viewers, ITV made it a regular series and confirmed it for a second season (September 2016).
In season one, Jenna Coleman wore twenty gowns including her scarlet Lydia Wickham travelling outfit from Death Comes to Pemberley (2013).
In the series, Lord Melbourne's son died as a young boy. The real son named George Augustus Frederick (which incidentally was George IV's full name as well), was born with mental disabilities and was cared for at his home. He died at the age of twenty-nine, eight years after his mother's death.
Daisy Goodwin: The series writer and executive producer appears as Lady Cecilia Buggin, Duchess of Inverness.
