The Animated Book of Mormon (1987)

FAQ

The Animated Book of Mormon

Yes, they are based on the Book of Mormon series, however they are not officially endorsed or approved by the LDS church.

Because it's much cheaper to outsource cartoons to Asian countries and hire an Asian animation team than it is to hire an American animation team. Also it's very time consuming to draw and animate frame by frame.

Because 600 BC, the people in Jerusalem were being wicked and sinning against God. Also they rejected and mocked many of the prophets of God even throwing stones at them. Jeremiah at that time also preached repentance but was cast into prison many times. Lehi was also a prophet and even declared repentance to the Jews but they mocked him and rejected him.

Later in Lehi's dream, God told Lehi to flee Jerusalem and take his family with him into the desert wilderness. Because the city of Babylon would send their armies to invade Jerusalem and take many of the Jews captive in 597 BC and 587 BC, for their wickedness against God.

Lehi, Sariah, Nephi, Sam, Laman, Lemuel, Zoram with their Ismael wives would journey into the desert, then travel across the ocean on a ship and would end up in America as their permanent home to settle into.

Because they were trying to get the brass plates from Laban who kept them in his treasury. Nephi knew that if they didn't bring the brass plates with them, then they would lose their identity with the Jewish faith and religion.

The 4 brothers failed 2 times in the attempt, first Laman trying to ask Laban for the Brass plates but is threaten with death and he runs away, and then the second attempt they gathered up all their money, gold, sliver treasures in hopes to buy the brass plates from Laban, but Laban rejects the offer and steals all their treasures and sends his guards to kill them. But the 4 brothers escape and Laman and Lemuel then beats up Nephi and Sam for their failure to get the brass plates.

The angel shows up and tells Laman and Lemuel to stop beating up their brothers and Nephi decides to get the brass plates himself. He sees Laban who is drunk and is conspired by God to kill Laban with the sword, Nephi was against killing a man, but seeing no other way to get the plates finally complies with God and kills Laban and disguises himself and goes to the treasury. He successfully gets Zoram to give him the brass plates and they all go back to Lehi's camp.
