Vin Diesel shares behind-the-scenes images as Riddick: Furya heads into production
Image
Although eleven years have passed since the release of the third film in the Riddick franchise, star Vin Diesel has always kept hope alive that he would someday be re-teaming with franchise mastermind David Twohy on another Riddick adventure. Back in May, we learned that Riddick: Furya was scheduled to start filming on August 26th – and during the build-up to the start of production, Diesel has been sharing behind-the-scenes images and video on social media that show him getting back into character as Riddick. You can check them out at the bottom of this article.

Riddick: Furya will be a continuation of the sci-fi action franchise that began with the creature feature Pitch Black back in 2000. That was followed by the epic The Chronicles of Riddick, which underperformed at the box office in 2004, so they reduced the scope for the third film, Riddick, which was released in 2013. The franchise also...

Riddick: Furya – the fourth film in the franchise starts shooting in August
Image
Whenever Vin Diesel wants to get away from family and live more than a quarter mile at a time, he revisits his other franchises. Diesel, an unapologetic sci-fi nerd, has always had a soft spot for his space anti-hero character, Riddick. Diesel will be following up on the previous entries with the upcoming Riddick: Furya. Deadline has now reported that this entry has just set its production start date on August 26th. This comes just as director Louis Leterrer confirmed that the eleventh Fast & Furious movie will not begin production until next year, which leaves Diesel open.

The plot of Riddick: Furya reads,

“Riddick finally returns to his home world, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.

Riddick 4: Vin Diesel shares another piece of Furyan concept art
Vin Diesel
Vin Diesel has two movies coming out this month. He has provided the voice of Groot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (read our review Here), and he’s back in the role of Dominic Toretto for Fast X. But while he’s attending events and doing press to promote those projects, he’s also looking forward to getting to work with writer/director David Twohy on Riddick: Furya, the fourth film in their Riddick franchise. He has shared Furyan concept art on his Instagram account before, and now he has unveiled another piece of concept art. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Riddick 4: Vin Diesel keeps the sequel hype alive as previous films crack the Netflix Top 10
Vin Diesel
Last month, it was announced that Vin Diesel and writer/director David Twohy are about ready to get rolling on Riddick: Furya, the fourth film in the Riddick franchise and a project that Diesel has been regularly mentioning pretty much ever since the third movie was released ten years ago, doing his best to keep the Riddick hype alive. His efforts must be working, because shortly after last month’s announcement all three of the previous Riddick movies cracked the Netflix top 10 in the United States. Pop Culture reported that, at one point, the Riddick movies were ranking in the top 10 in reverse order: “Riddick stands at number four, Chronicles of Riddick at number seven and Pitch Black at number nine.” So Diesel took to Instagram to celebrate the Netflix success of the films while mentioning that he’s working to get Riddick 4 into production.

Riddick: Furya will be...

Riddick 4 Will End The Vin Diesel Franchise - Theory Explained
Image
Riddick 4 is shaping up to end the Vin Diesel sci-fi franchise. While he built his career on the Fast & Furious or Xander Cage movies, Diesel made his first real impression on audiences thanks to 2000's sleeper hit Pitch Black. Diesel beat out Steven Seagal to play Richard B. Riddick, a brutal convict who crash lands on a planet filled with creatures that hunt in the dark. Diesel's gravelly-voiced charisma has rarely been better utilized than Pitch Black, but while he returned for two sequels, the series never had the box-office impact of his other franchises.

Part of that could be the Chronicles Of Riddick's somewhat confused branding. The first was a modestly-budgeted creature feature while the 2004 sequel was a big-budget soft reboot that attempted to make Riddick a more audience-friendly figure. When that didn't work, 2013's Riddick was another soft reboot that returned to the character's genre...

Riddick 4 Finally Moving Forward With Vin Diesel 10 Years Later
Image
After years of sharing their hopes to return, Riddick 4 is finally moving forward with Vin Diesel returning 10 years later. The franchise first launched with the sci-fi horror-thriller Pitch Black in 2000, being followed by 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick, which was a critical and commercial flop on release, but has since garnered a cult following. The duo would reunite in 2013 for Riddick, which took place five years after its predecessor and saw Diesel's titular character trying to survive on a desolated planet while being hunted by a group of mercenaries.

Deadline has brought word that Vin Diesel is confirmed to be returning for Riddick 4. The announcement comes 10 years after the last film hit theaters, with franchise creator David Twohy returning to again write and direct the sci-fi action sequel. Twohy wrote about the sequel in the following statement:

Our legion of fans have demanded it for years, and now...

Riddick 4: Vin Diesel shares Furya concept art
Vin Diesel in Riddick (2013)
Almost ten years have gone by since the release of the previous film in the Riddick franchise – and pretty much ever since the release of that movie, franchise star Vin Diesel has been taking every opportunity to hype up the fact that he and franchise director David Twohy are planning to make another sequel, Riddick 4: Furya. So while Diesel is currently busy wrapping up the Fast and the Furious franchise with this year’s release of Fast X and then one more sequel beyond that one, he still took a moment to remind fans that he intends to make Riddick 4: Furya. The latest reminder comes in the form of two pieces of concept art, which you can check out at the bottom of this article.

Riddick 4: Furya will be a continuation of the sci-fi action franchise that began with the creature feature Pitch Black. That was followed...

Riddick Helmer David Twohy Will Write And Direct New Sci-Fi Flick Ice Moon Rising
David Twohy and Vin Diesel’s may be prepping to blow the doors off their cult Riddick franchise with the Merc City TV show along with a fourth – and possibly R-rated – movie, but the former is keeping busy beyond the realm of Furyans and galactic mercenaries, after Variety brings word that Twohy has been tapped to write and direct Ice Moon Rising.

Remaining in the sci-fi genre for the time being, the outlet notes that Ice Moon Rising has been hatched as an American-Chinese co-production, and will chronicle a daring space mission to Europa, one of Jupiter’s many moons that has enchanted scientists and stargazers for generations.

That’s because Europa is said to house massive oceans beneath its icy exterior, and Twohy’s feature will extrapolate that scientific reality and craft a plot involving alien creatures and wayward astronauts. Bound for Jupiter’s satellite, the Chinese and American...

David Twohy Wants Fourth Riddick Movie Furia To Have An R-Rating
Vin Diesel’s affection for his fanbase saw him officially confirm the fourth Riddick movie via social media earlier today. And while we already knew it was on the cards, the action stalwart had a couple of surprises in store for his “global family.” David Twohy swung by to chat with the Fast and Furious star through live video streamed straight to Diesel’s Facebook, and the pair discussed the upcoming Furia.

The fourth movie plans to revisit the saga that began with Pitch Black in 1999, and focus its attention on the origins of Diesel’s brooding Furyan. While it’s currently in the scripting stages, Twohy outright confirmed his plans for it to bear the R-rating, which confirms it’ll follow in the footsteps of its dark fantasy predecessors. As for what exactly Riddick’s past contains, the pair remained tight-lipped, except for Diesel, who revealed it will be...

'Riddick 4: Furia' Shoots in 2017; Is an R Rated Origin Story
David Twohy in Riddick: Furya
Last month, Vin Diesel took to his Instagram page to reveal that he and writer-director David Twohy are not only developing a fourth Riddick movie, entitled The Chronicles of Riddick: Furia, but also a TV show spinoff entitled Merc City. Yesterday, it was announced that the actor's production company One Race Films has signed a multi-year deal with Universal Television, where the TV series will be developed. The actor also recently took to his Facebook page, where he posted a video alongside David Twohy, where he explains that production may begin on The Chronicles of Riddick: Furia in early 2017. Here's what he had to say, about why fans will have to wait so long for the new movie to start production.

"I couldn't have done Riddick, because I just had (his daughter) Pauline nine months ago, so whenever I'm a fresh dad, I can't go to that dark place.

Diesel, Twohy Set "Riddick 4" Shoot Date, Rating
Following on from confirmation earlier that a TV series spin-off to the "Riddick" franchise is on the way, the franchise's star Vin Diesel posted an unannounced live video on Tuesday and teased to nearly 200,000 viewers a special guest - "Riddick" creator David Twohy.

The pair confirmed that they will start filming on the fourth chapter in the film series, titled "Furia," beginning in early 2017. The story will effectively serve as an origin story of where Riddick comes from, and it is targeting an R rating confirmed Twohy quite bluntly.

The project is also said to have a "more expansive mythology". Diesel himself describes the new one as a "little more expansive in its mythology". No word on when the spin-off TV series "Merc City" could begin production.
