D-Day Assassins (2019)

Trivia

D-Day Assassins

Edit
Loosely inspired by several events from 1944 involving "The Filthy Thirteen", the 1st Demolition Section of the Regimental Headquarters Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, of the United States Army. They fought in the European campaign during World War II. This unit was the inspiration for the book and subsequent film 'The Dirty Dozen' (1967).
The DVD opened in the UK as the 4th best selling Direct-to-Video release of the week.
The 1944 Hospital sequence was filmed at Quarry Hospital in Llanberis, Caernarfon, North Wales. The high accident rate amongst workers at the slate quarry led to the construction of a hospital near the quarry. Having a hospital close to the quarry allowed workers to get back to work with minimal delay after receiving treatment. The building dates from 1840 and closed in the 1960 when mining ceased at the quarry. It was one of the first hospitals in the country to have an Xray machine. The hospital is now a museum and has a collection of medical equipment dating back to the 1800s. The Xray machine is still there and a ward and an operating theatre have been restored to their original state.
Filmed in the Craig Cefn Parc and Parkmill areas of Swansea, South Wales, and Llanberis, Caernarfon in North Wales. Additional exterior shots of Normandy, France, and actual footage of battles which occurred on D-Day are also featured in the film.
The production was filming during the 74th Anniversary of D-Day in 2018 and the film was released just before the 75th Anniversary in 2019.
