Billy Brannigan went on a strict diet before filming so that he could look as slim as possible. This was because his character is referred to as "the All-American jock."

Billy Brannigan thought that his character should be a smoker, so when he arrived on set he pitched the idea to director Troy Escamilla. It was then decided that cigarette smoking would be featured in certain scenes.
