TV presenter Marion Kaspers (Angela Schijf) is clearly referencing Yvonne Jaspers, who has hosted the very successful TV show "Boer zoekt vrouw" (Farmer seeks wife) for over 10 years. The whole movie itself is a play on this format.
The movie references the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen in both title and story.
