    For Italophiles

Found this on Netflix Sept. 2022. It is a series In Italian with English subtitles. A good watch for the intermediate-advanced student of the language. Its basic story is true but is quite fictionalized. The timelines are not accurate at all. Both as compared to real events, and as to vehicles (both horse and motorized). The progression of machinery and factory are for show. The brief WWI scene has some realism to it. The antique steam railroad engine and passenger coaches are real, accurate as to date, but brief. The show portrays her softer, more effeminate than I think she was. We watched only one of the segments. Giovanni Buitoni became her partner and stayed with her til her end. • Trivia
"Spagnoli" means "Spaniard" in Italian. In the 11th century, there was a great migration of Spaniards (mainly from Catalonia) to Italy. In order to never lose their true identity, they adopted last names to remind their progeny, and future generations alike, of where they really came from: Spain. A popular such last name was "Catalano" (meaning "Catalonian", in Italian) such as was Guy Williams' real last name, indicating that the Zorro protagonist's ancestry really was from Catalunya, Spain.

So, the title of this series really means: "Luisa, Spaniard", and all the Italian "pride" truly ought to be Spanish pride, as one takes their skills from their country of origin, and one cannot alter their DNA (who one truly is) by moving to, obtaining a passport from, or being born in a foreign country.
