The film's sequel was announced a month later after Dead Rising: Watchtower (2015).

The newsroom seen early in the film is not a set, but the CBC Vancouver newsroom redressed with different logos.

In his first appearance, Garth is seen playing Dead Rising 3 (2013).

Jesse Metcalfe, Keegan Connor Tracy, Dennis Haysbert and Patrick Sabongui all return from the first film. As Metcalfe, Tracey and Haybent reprised their roles, Sabongui portrayed a different new character.

Many of the film's characters were played by members of the cast of Continuum (Stephen Lobo, Victor Webster, Luvia Petersen, and Ian Tracey).
