Ashlynn Yennie wrote an article for the Daily Beast in July 2017 about starring in this series. In it, she revealed that she was hesitant about taking the role. Not because of the nudity, which she had no issue with, but because she didn't know if she could play a submissive and represent the BDSM culture correctly since she knew nothing about it. But she accepted it because she loves being challenged and stretching outside her comfort zone.
Ashlynn Yennie said that BDSM is not how they portray it in the 50 Shades films. It is quite different. It's less about sex and more about having a connection to someone, while giving yourself over with all five senses. She added that BDSM may not be everyone's cup of tea, and she gets that people will always judge, thinking, It's for people who are sex addicts and taboo, but it's not.
