Although Redwater ended on a cliffhanger for both Kathleen and Alfie, by late 2018, both characters had later re-appeared in their original series "Eastenders", seemingly unscathed.
Ireland's RTE One premiered this series from sunday the 14th May 2017, at 9.30pm ahead of the BBC's UK premiere. This is standard practice for certain UK-Ireland productions, where Ireland actually gets the worldwide premiere, ahead of the UK premieres.
Confusingly, this series has 2 alternative titles. "Kat & Alfie: Redwater", and "Redwater". The first title, denotes its obvious connection to the BBC TV series"Eastenders", from where the characters of Kat (Kathleen) and Alfie originate. The other title "Redwater" leaves the series as a standalone drama in territories that may be unfamiliar with their "Eastenders" backstory - akin to other series titles such as "Broadchurch"/"Ballykissangel" referring to the place the series is set.
Somewhat confusingly for some UK viewers, the Republic of Ireland's RTE One would get the worldwide premiere of all of the first 6 episodes on the sunday nights at 9.30pm 4 days ahead of them being shown in the UK on BBC One on thursdays at 8pm. Similar scheduling agreements have long been in place for several other UK-Ireland co-productions such as "Mrs Brown's Boys", "The Fall" and "Paula".
