"Day 5" had a notoriously long production cycle. A scene was shot at RTX 2012, Rooster Teeth's annual convention and expo. The trailer premiered at RTX 2014. The series started filming in March 2016 and premiered that June. According to Burnie Burns, it went through three distinct iterations before the version that was eventually released, including a nearly-completed feature film.
