In later years, Lewis Carroll (grudgingly) provided an answer: "because the notes for which they are noted are not noted for being musical notes." The film's title is taken from the refrain of William Butler Yeat's poem "The Stolen Child" (1889). The poem itself is read aloud early in this film.
