Reference to the movie Gremlins. When the shopkeeper is on the phone she says 'don't get it wet, and whatever you do, don't feed it after midnight' These were instructions given by the Chinese shopkeer in Gremlins when Gizmo was purchased.
This film is Skeet Ulrich's return to the horror genre since 1996s Scream.
