"We're middle class... we've been to Malta!"
Bizarre and cringe-worthy 'comedy' about a family who suddenly finds itself very rich.
Eleven-year-old Rio invents a social media app (Honc) and sells it to a mental Californian called Trent for millions. Before the money is in the bank Rio's mother (Kerry) is spending like there's no tomorrow. Dad, Tony, tries to keep things grounded but he's outgunned by his own family and Oliver the lonely (and creepy) accountant. Ellie is there because she's pretty and makes up the numbers.
Just when I thought that this was a sitcom aimed at 11-year-old boys, out come the penis jokes, references to pedophiles and a gag about kids being caught masturbating by their mothers! And to top it off - at the end, there's a three hundred quid phallic firework that's been banned in Holland!
So... it's a comedy aimed at adults with the mentality of an 11-year-old boy!
Bizarrely, we have progressed so much in the UK that we actually have a 'token white person' in the family. Kerry Carter can't possibly be the natural mother of these kids... maybe we'll find out later in the series. Or, maybe not as I suspect there won't be many people over the age of ten who will want to see the second episode of this frenetic nonsense.
The idea of a sitcom focusing on a family who has had corrupting riches thrown at them would appear to be full of possibilities for both comedy and drama... but in the first episode, such stupidly unlikely events happen that it's just impossible to take anyone or anything seriously.
I suspect that in future episodes things will calm down a bit and get a little less annoying, but I'll never know. This kind of 'situation comedy' doesn't tickle my funny bones! It's showing on Sky TV and SkyVision reckon it's 'brilliant!'
