Blood on Satan's Paw

Filmmaker Richard Mansfield made this low budget oddity, inspired by Folk Horror classics like The Wicker Man, Witchfinder General and (naturally) Blood on Satan's Claw as well as all the original Hammer Horror films, for around £700 and filmed it in his local park with a cast and crew made up of family and friends. Following in the footsteps of Kill List and A Field In England, it explores the darker side of England's countryside and folk lore as a trip to the woods takes a nasty turn for metal detectorist Tommy (Henry Regan), when he discovers a mysterious bear-headed demon called Mister Bones (played by Mansfield) is stalking him. With a creepy, surreal tone that lends Tommy's adventure a dreamy, unsettling feel, and featuring lollipops sticking out of the ground, a tiny house producing smoke from its miniature chimney stack, a bizarre nightmare involving marionettes (the puppetry is excellent) and a deranged score provided by Cunning Folk which he provided in return for Mansfield making him a music video about the Pendle Witches, Blood On Satan's Paw has a lot going on to recommend it, even if it is a short that has been stretched out to feature length.
