    If Poe got a tan~

A very well written beautifully executed film. From start to finish each character was intricate and relevant to the story's plot. Lite hearted and deep in a way that broken things have value without being emo. I loved the ending it was perfect and satisfying.

    Unexpected and nice setting

Many horror movies like using a similiar constellation. An outcast house, scenes in the dark and some kind of monster. This is also the case on this one.

But in this movie things aren't as the camera tells us. I was in fact really suprised by the plot twists this movie takes and I think they did fit well with the story.

The actors were great and so is the directing! The timing on some scenes is fantastic!

this movie had me thinking about it for days

After watching this movie I walked around for days thinking about how moved I was for the members of this family, in particular Jack, for reasons I won't reveal. This movie was very moving and touched me deeply. It is also frightening, tense, and had me on the edge of my seat. The writers, director and actors successfully made a film which had me re thinking some of the events and feeling deep empathy for it's characters. Very well done!

Marrowbone: Ghosts, Kids, and a Whole Lot of Secrets

When your house has covered mirrors, dark hallways, and creepy noises at night, you've got a problem. No smart home tech to turn on the lights here-just an atmosphere that would make Tim Burton jealous. The Marrowbone house is a character in its own right, sweating death through every wall.

Four kids hide their mother's death to avoid being split up by social services. But the real Battle Royale is against their own demons. The first hour pulls you into their fragile world, where every interaction feels like it could crack under the weight of family secrets. And when things go off the rails, it hits you like a critical hit in an RPG.

Sergio G. Sánchez understands what mainstream horror directors often forget: you don't need a blaring car alarm to make people jump. The chills here creep in slowly, like an icy hand sliding down your neck. The monster doesn't pop up every five minutes to do a jump scare routine. Every appearance is an event, like finding a hidden boss in a video game.

George MacKay, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Mia Goth aren't just there for decoration. Their characters have depth-a rarity in modern horror films. Jack, the eldest, carries the weight of the family on his shoulders like Kratos wields his axe, and every glance from Taylor-Joy hints at secrets you're not ready to hear.

Sure, you see the twist coming like a truck speeding down a straight road. But it doesn't matter. The way it's delivered is what leaves a mark. Even if you've already guessed it, the film manages to knock the wind out of you with its pacing, direction, and tension buildup.

Marrowbone is what horror cinema should always be: smart, well-crafted, and free from commercial gimmicks. It's a film that doesn't treat you like an idiot, using classic horror tropes with just the right touch of melodrama. A pure cinematic experience for those who want chills without turning off their brain.

    Hidden gem?

This was a really nice hidden gem, why have I never heard of this before?!

It was a bit of a slow burn to begin with but it was more so just exposition that was still intriguing. By the third act it was an instant banger, loved the multiple twists, was not expecting most of it.

The acting was solid across the board. It was very well cast and as an ensemble I thought they did great.

I could have done with a bit more horror/ spook, and the ending was a little corny but I still liked it. Weirdly enough this is kinda a... feel good horror? I know, that sounds ridiculous. Lol Idk how this isn't more well known or maybe I've been living under a rock but I would definitely recommend.

    • Trivia
All the scenes in the house (but not the attic ones, and the library sequence) have been filmed in the same house with natural light only. The three different stairways existed as such and have been kept for filming.
    • Goofs
When Billy drops down into the chimney to look for the money box, the burn length on the first match he lights changes with multiple camera angles, from the front camera shot (short burn length), and the rear camera shot (long, almost to his fingers). Also, other than for a suspense affect, why is he using multiple matches for minimal light? Earlier in the movie, it was clear the children were in possession of working flashlights.
