The movie was already in pre-production stage in Spring of 2008 and production was originally going to take off in summer that year, with Wilson Yip and Donnie Yen as the original choice of director and lead actor respectively. At the same time, producer Raymond Pak-Ming Wong had just purchased the rights to produce Ip Man (2008) and had discussed this with the other two. In the end, they decided to go with the latter project putting the former on hold for later. However due to the surprise mega success of the Yip Man biopic, and Yen as well as Yip expressing interests in making other movies, production of this movie has been delayed for nearly 10 years. It has yet to announce final casting, shooting and release dates.
