The idea for making the series came out of a phone call between co-creators Sam Bradford and Sam Benjamin after they had both watched Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) in theaters.
At the beginning of Episode 4 a reporter can be heard covering news of a football game. This voice belongs to the director of that episode and co-creator of the series, Sam Bradford.
