The Flying Saucer restaurant that Abby and Laure go to is an actual restaurant in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The scenes inside appear to be shot in the actual restaurant.
The character of Walter Bell may be a nod towards Art Bell. In addition to sharing the same last name, Walter runs a podcast and is a historian often considered to be a crackpot conspiracy theorist nut, Art ran a radio show for many years where he often discussed the supernatural, government cover-ups, and of course aliens.
The strange poem heard in one of the VidStar viewings that begins with the lines, "In the desert, I saw a creature," is Stephen Crane's "In the Desert."
