I sat down to watch this 2019 horror movie because of two reasons. The first and most important reason was because Barbara Crampton was in it, and the second being that it was a horror movie.
Now, much to my disappointment, Barbara Crampton wasn't really all that much in the movie, and I believe she was listed on the cover solely to lure in the audience, us horror fans familiar with her cult standing. She was only briefly in the movie, so don't get suckered in by this. Some of us did, so you don't have to.
As for it being a horror movie, well... I'd say it was more of a thriller than it was a horror movie, because it wasn't scary. The thriller aspect was more dominant as there was something psychological underlaying the tone of the movie and also it had a supernatural feel to it. So don't sit down to watch "Stay Out Stay Alive" with the impression of it being a scary horror movie, because it isn't.
And that leaves me with the impression of the movie. The movie certainly did have some interesting enough moments to it, but it was mostly weighed down by a trivial plot and storyline, and also by the fact that it wasn't really all that interesting actually. The movie quickly grew stale and mundane, and you just sort of sit there in a state of stupor as the storyline trots on.
I am rating "Stay Out Stay Alive" a four out of ten stars rating because of the production value it had, and also because it seemed like an ambitious project with the heart and spirit in the right place. Just a shame that the storyline was less than mediocre, and the fact that Barbara Crampton was hardly in the movie. Oh, and the fact that this wasn't a scary horror movie after all.
"Stay Out Stay Alive" is entertaining enough for a single viewing, if you have nothing better on the agenda. But beware, this is by no means a cinematic gem or masterpiece. And the movie came without a bang, and it will slowly fade into oblivion without a bang. This is not a movie that I will be returning to watch a second time.
