The set was hit by so many sandstorms that filming nearly shut down for a day. Then someone got the idea to strap a camera to a cinematographer's back. Multiple shots of sandstorms in the film were real-life sandstorms.
The snake is a Bandy-bandy and is indigenous to Australia.
