Khoj was shot as a television movie. It is only when the film started getting accepted in several festivals and receiving awards the makers decided to release it theatrically.
Ritwick Chakraborty and Jaya Ahsan were initially approached for the roles of Prashant and Jonaki respectively. While Ritwick could not manage his dates, Jaya refused to play that character. Several other actresses were offered that role too including Basabdatta Chatterjee, Monami Ghosh, Aparajita Ghosh Das, Roosha Chatterjee etc. Monami could not manage dates and others declined for different reasons.
