Beautiful animation, but that doesn't save it.

It's mostly what the title says. The animation is absolutely gorgeous, and it's extremely impressive how well they were able to replicate the style of those old cartoons. To me, it passes all expectations with flying colors! However, the rest of it is simply underwhelming. The song, even with all the effort put in, falls flat. I don't think I've ever willingly listened to it outside of this review. And the video itself, yeesh. It does bring up a very good point with our modern society, but it does so in a very "phone bad book good" way. It generalizes and exaggerates a large portion of the population, showing them off as "zombies". This, combined with the fact that it doesn't even provide a solution to the problem it brings up, makes everyone angry! They don't even make an attempt, they simply go "Haha you are all addicted to your phones while I, Chud Snafuman, cry longingly into the camera. Listen to my song!". It's like the "Nuggets" video with the kiwi, but somehow worse. "Nuggets" does not provide a solution, but it at least is more accurate, if not annoying to watch. Overall, I'd say to only watch this if you really like old-school, 1920's styled animation. Just make sure to keep it on mute.

    Wow things never change

Boomers talking about book good phone bad. Same stuff different movie. It's amazing how it's the same as the daily paper but without the big noses. I was waiting for the "dad how do I scroll through the book" punchline that always happens. Wouldn't recommend.

A part of an echo chamber

This short film attempts to portray why Social media and phones are bad it doesn't do this by pointing out the legitimate ways Social media has harmed society instead it's just meaningless shock factor with a phone in the frame pretending that said issues were caused by the phone. The best scene that encapsulates this is where the MC sits down on a curb, a dog walks up to him, a guy walks up to the dog and kicks it for no reason. This film has the appearance of depth but is as deep as a puddle, none of what it brings up is worth investigating fully as it's just depression porn showing the negative aspects of a society that have been around since the Neolithic Revolution. Instead of prompting one to think about why these negative traits exist it tries to blame the phone in a manner that can't be any more heavy handed. Here's a list of things the film tries to blame on smartphones; Suicide, Depression, Kicking Small Animals, and Groping.

This film as a whole was clearly a bad faith attempt at portraying Smartphone usage by somebody who's never touched a phone or went outside in the last 10 years.

    Moby's song, Cutts' message

The most interesting, captivating, and powerful part of this music video is the animation by Steve Cutts. Moby's song is okay-certainly not one of his best-but it's Cutts' visuals that tell the real story and deliver a striking message about the dangers of digital technology and social media.

The animation brilliantly illustrates how these technologies have transformed humanity for the worse-into a world where clicks, followers, and content are all that matter, while the mental and societal costs are ignored. The more you watch, the more you realize just how valid and pointed the message is.

As is typical of Steve Cutts, he delivers sharp examples of the negative impacts of digital life. And to make it even more engaging-not that his darkly humorous style isn't entertaining enough-the video includes countless nods to classic Disney characters, old and new cartoon icons, and internet meme figures. They're all hidden in plain sight, but you'll need to keep watching closely to catch them.

    Such a shame

The animation is genuinely interesting and I would love to be able to watch it.

Unfortunately the song is soooo BAD!!!!! It distracts from the animation and I just can't stand it!
