The names of the two lead yetis in the film, Migo and Meechee, are actually two different Tibetan words for "yeti" (yeti being more the Nepalese term).
The film's editor, Peter Ettinger, created the language and performs the high-pitched squeaking vocals for the Smallfoot (known as "smallfoot gibberish").
The voice of the Mama Bear is different in the UK theatrical release. In the UK version, she is voiced by former Spice Girls member Emma Bunton.
The screaming goat is based on several popular YouTube videos of goats that made uncharacteristic screaming sounds instead of their usual bleating. This is one of three animated films of 2018 to use this method, the other being The Grinch (2018) and Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018).
In the opening musical number, "Perfection", Channing Tatum is not dubbed by another singer; it's his actual voice. The 38-yr old actor said that there was no discussion about singing when he first signed onto the movie. Director Karey Kirkpatrick sneakily coaxed him into singing the song as production progressed, beginning with a promise that the character Migo would merely talk-sing the first line, "Oh, what a perfect day!" Gradually, Kirkpatrick "(got) more of a commitment from me." Eventually, the plan for him to sing the entire song was presented, and a vocal coach was hired. "I know nothing about singing," Tatum said.
