The first teaser trailer was completed within an hour and was released during the time the script was in it's first revision.
Open auditions were held at Mindframe Theaters in uptown Dubuque while one on one auditions were held at Jitterz Coffee & Cafe in downtown Dubuque.
A Godzilla jar was provided on set. Every time producer Jayme Schmitt talked about Godzilla, someone would drop a penny in the jar. Schmitt joked that there were enough pennies in that jar to invest in an Egyptian Theater Premiere.
Many nods and Easter eggs are included throughout the film to other films and pop culture. Titanic and 9/11 appear in the spaceship scene implying that both events were caused by the alien infiltration. The poster for Peelers appears in the background of Claudia's bed scene. During the news broadcasting scene, the scroll on the bottom references the events of both Death to Metal and Candiland. At the end credits of the film, Rick mentions Dr. Wisenkomp, a character from PKP Films' The Cutting Room Floor. These are all references made by either personal friends or interests of the crew, as well as making it a way to tie together a much bigger universe.
In the first draft Schmitt wrote, his character Steve wasn't suppose to show up until halfway through the second act. And towards the end of the film was not included in most of the fight. Originally one of the alien soldiers would have pinned his hand to a tree, forcing him to cut it off to escape. It would have served as a homage to Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris (1999), but Schmitt eventually changed his mind in favor of having Steve's inclusion in the third act.
