Officer Richter becomes kind of a spokesperson for the hysterical mob and guardian of the anarchistic 'law', so his name is surely no coincidence: 'Richter' is German for judge.
The town in the film is named Salem. There are many parallels between the hysteria during Salem Witch Trials and the events in this film.
After the hack, and the main four characters are at Em's place, as the camera pans up to the bedroom window, you hear the line "Dade. I didn't know your size, so I guessed." This is a line from the movie Hackers (1995).
Since the film is about teenage girls and what their experiences are like, including those of transgender girls, writer Sam Levinson (who is an adult male) gave the script to all of the girls so that they could give their input. There were indeed some things he changed, adjusted, or added based on what they said.
