Courtney Gains, Tony Todd, and PJ Soles were all cast to add "horror name recognition" to the film. Courtney Gains is best known for portraying Malachi in Children of the Corn (1984), Tony Todd's best known horror role was as the titular character in Candyman (1992) , and PJ Soles gained her horror cred as Lynda in Halloween (1978) and as Norma in Carrie (1976).
Plainfield, Wisconsin, USA, where the movie ends, is the hometown of notorious murderer and necrophiliac Ed Gein.
Tim Russ, best known for Star Trek: Voyager (1995) makes an uncredited cameo as a diner patron in the first scene. His daughter Madison Russ co-stars in the film.
Filmed in Blanchester Ohio where a real life murder took place on August 28th 1996. After years of abuse at the hands of her then boyfriend Carrie Culberson disappeared and was believed to have been murdered by Vincent Doan. He was later accused and indicted in her murder. The remains of Carrie Culberson and her red Honda have never turned up. Several of the Doan family properties were searched, but no evidence was ever found that would lead to the body of Carrie or her car. Doans Father and Brother were also indicted in crimes associated with the murder of Miss.Culberson. Relatives of Carrie later received a $3.75 Million Dollar case settlement from the Blanchester Police for their mishandling of the case that divided the small town. As part of the settlement a statue in Carrie's memory was placed in front of the police station.
In the final scene the carnival is in Plainfield Wisconsin, where Ed Gein is from.
