The Films of Zora Neale Hurston (2016)
*** (out of 4)
This two minute featurette is basically an introduction to filmmaker Nora Neale Hurston. The Library of Congress worker Mike Mashon is interviewed and he discusses how the LOC got in control of two of the films that are seen on the Kino release of Pioneers of African-American Cinema. ZORA NEALE HURSTON FIELDWORK FOOTAGE from 1928 and COMMANDMENT KEEPER CHURCH from 1940 are discussed and we learn a little about both pictures. Obviously at under two-minutes there's not going to be anything too ground-breaking here but fans of the box set will certainly enjoy what information is provided.
