The role of Birdie was originally called Cedric, then changed to Birdie for Melissa Leo, who had a conflict and was replaced by Ron Perlman, despite retaining the same name.
This is a reunion for Ron Perlman and Mark Boone Junior from Sons of Anarchy (2008), a reunion of which neither was aware until arriving on set.
Mark Boone Junior, George Carroll and Sam Quartin all appeared in Let Me Make You a Martyr (2016), the debut film from writer/director, John Swab.
"Golden Days of Hollywood," a lounge piano track in the film, was composed & performed by John Lawrence Schick.
