Cher was cast in the film after hearing about the project and reaching out to the producers. Once she had signed on, the script was written with a specific role for her.

Due to concern over her mother's health, Cher will no longer be appearing in the film.
The film marks Cher's return to television following an absence of more than twenty years. Her last television acting role was in If These Walls Could Talk (1996).
The controversy in Flint is a very personal cause to Cher. She has been active in raising awareness about the water crisis on social media, and donated hundreds of thousands of bottles of water to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan for distribution to residents.
