This is a hilarious and very smart film that appears, on the surface, to be about two guys making a documentary about telling lies to get girls in bed, but this is just the veneer of a tale that pokes fun at men, women, the film industry, and society. The movie does an excellent job of revealing the absurdity of human desires, attempts to fulfill them, and ensuing complications. If you're looking for some good laughs, I highly recommend Phony!
As expected from the creative mind of David Bush - a film to make you laugh, and think, and to be super confused. Layers upon layers, and brilliantly done.
I got a headache near the one hour mark and then turned it off. The movie starts off ok but then gets super confusing and it's literally just people arguing. Don't bother.
I've never left a movie review before, but this movie was so terrible I was compelled to do so to save others from wasting over an hour of their life watching this. The movie actually starts off interesting and showed some promise. That's what kept me watching, to see where it was leading and where it was going. About halfway through the film, it just lost all point, direction, and story and just became a film trying to make a film that just didn't work. I hate to bash a young black man attempting to make a film (or doing anything positive), but this was just bad and pointless. The movie begins to argue with itself about the movie and never really reaches any solid ground on having a point. Completely directionless, the characters make no sense and the "plot" ends up being some type of "me too" moment that is very weak and meaningless. I'm mad I wasted my time viewing this, and I hope the director finds actual writers who have plot, theme, purpose, and goals in mind when directing his next film. This could have been soo much better than how it turned out to be.
I've caught girls filming me. Cameras are so small you can't even get laid without someone sneaky filming you. I feel terrible for this generation it's a sad video recording life.nobody is safe.

- TriviaAs a nod to legitimate filmmaking, and the thematic similarities and shared shoot location (Baton Rouge), director David Bush set several scenes at the same establishments used in Steven Soderbergh's Sex, Lies, and Videotape, shot 30 years prior.
