The character of Lila Cassen (Najwa Nimri), the singer who retires in the wake of her mother's death, was inspired by Japanese pop singer Naomi Chiaki, who stopped singing and even appearing in public after her husband's death in 1992.
The main characters are both named after flowers in Spanish: Lila means 'lilac' and Violeta means 'violet'.
The film premiered at TIFF in Toronto in September 2018.
The title in English is literally "Who Will Sing to You".
