Prior to the release of this movie, the director Jijo, and producer Krishnan have met Thalapathy Vijay's father, Dr. SA Chandrasekar to receive his blessings. They met the senior director in person to discuss the film.

The filmmakers first decision was to make a movie based on the locals of Trivandrum Chenkalchoola. But they got sidetracked after meeting the locals. Most of the people were die-hard fans of superstar Vijay, and the filmmakers were so impressed by them, they decided to scrap the project and make a new one based on Vijay fans.
According to the writer "Prof. Seetharamayer" the character portrayed by Nedumudi Venu was based on Trivandrum Sub Collector Divya. S. Ayers' father, who is a die hard Vijay fan.
