A fan of Suzanne Pleshette, writer Kevin Kessler made multiple references to her through character names: Emily Pleshette, (Heidi Riggs), the maid of honor and Kara Hartley, (Victoria Rapp) the bride's cousin, are a combination of both her surname and her character name (Emily Hartley) on The Bob Newhart Show (1972). Suzanne Logan (Sasha O'Kane), one of Kimberly's high school friends, bears her first name. Kimberly's friend, Wesley Kaplan, bears Ms. Pleshette's mother's maiden name.
