Emmanuelle Bercot, Golshifteh Farahani, and Mehdi Taleghani in Girls of the Sun (2018)

Trivia

Girls of the Sun

Edit
The opening and closing voice-overs were added late in post-production only to have French be the main language of the film and thus guarantee financial support from French institutions.
In terms of dealing with violence, two things were a problem for Eva Husson. The first came from the fact that, in the history of cinema, the portrayal of violence against women is often close to voyeurism, sometimes with intense victimization of it.
The film was presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2018.
Eva Husson has toured with many Kurdish actors. The filmmaker remembers having a very sweet relationship with them, who never took it to heart.
To prepare the film, Eva Husson went to Kurdistan and tried to meet all possible factions on the Kurdish side. The filmmaker did not want to go into contact with extremists because she felt that it was not about her. On the other hand, she went to the front, and to refugee camps, to collect the testimonies of women who had escaped.
