    No, watching this fictional story would likely confuse them. A major part of the story is an actual underground railroad which, of course, is purely fictional and would confuse young minds. Another story plot is a city in South Carolina involved in the sterilizational and medical experimentation on blacks which stems from reality (see James Marion Sims for example). The underground railroad is used as a metaphorical storytelling device and that the South Carolina storyline echoes actual happenings like the Tuskegee syphilus study, young minds would have difficulty making such a distinction. The series is rightly rated R for exactly all of the normal reasons, namely language, violence, sex, and nudity; all of the above occur regularly in the series.



    No, this series is pure, metaphorical fiction. And as you can imagine, the violence is disturbing. Having said that, it is an interesting story.
