This is actually a 360° VR film, which means the viewer controls what they want to see. There's probably a story here, but I honestly didn't pay much attention to it-and that's fine, because something else steals the show. You're dropped right into the middle of various events: a space fleet, legions of Imperial troops, and even a lightsaber battle between Darth Vader and a group of Jedi. Using directional controls, you decide where to look. I've seen a similar technique used in a promotional clip for Alien: Covenant. Back then, eight or nine years ago, many anticipated that merging video game-style control with film and VR would revolutionize cinema. It hasn't happened yet-but with today's AI, which can even generate avatars of ourselves as characters, who knows what's coming next. As a technical showcase, it's quite cool. As a Star Wars story, though, it's not especially impressive.
