Ladies first is about an inspirational survival story of Deepika Kumari who came from poverty and is now an Olympic archer. Ladies first is directed by Uraaz Bahl.
This is a very inspirational film, and a well made film. The direction is very subtle, not as subtle as The Traders. But still subtle and laid back, in a good way. What I found most surprising about this film was its fantastic editing. My favorite moment was when Kumari is in a tense position in an archery game and she is about to fire an arrow. But before it fires it cuts away then fades into another scene, that's simply sublime editing.
However there are some nitpicks about the film that drag the experience of the film down in my opinion. Most importantly, I wanted to know more about Kumari and look deeper into her experiences, some bits just felt like they were there for a brief moment then were never really looked at again. In my opinion this should have been a feature length documentary because I would have loved to know more about the challenges Kumari faced, and the way she overcame them.
Overall a really great film and I recommend it to anybody reading this review.

This movie taught me to focus on the journey rather than focusing on the output. Hard truth of <1%0f women in the organised sports sector. Hope she wins gold soon as the losing burden is extremely high in a country like India.

It is an inspirational story of one of the finest archers in the world- former number one - Deepika kumari.
The film shows that how by defeating poverty, social prejudice and other challenges, she becomes a successful sports person. The movie also shows her difficult times when she fails to win any medal in London Olympic and Rio Olympic. The film draws the problems in Indian sports like very less inclusion of girl, lack of mental professional to support players and discrimination between girl and boys.
the movie correctly points out that we usually say "ladies first". but when it comes to education, sports, etc we never say girls should be given first chances in these aspects. They fear that girls will overtake boys by such margin that boy can never catch them again.
The movie ends on some positive notes. Deepika tells " i will not give up". And she is burning mid night oil for Olympic 2020, Tokyo. The administration is also providing mental experts to sports person,
i would suggest everyone to watch this.

Only thing I liked was the part where she says we always use the term Ladies First but why not when it comes to education and opportunities.
